Patriot Day - September 11: Honoring the Victims and Heroes of 9/11

Patriot Day is a national holiday in the United States that commemorates the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On this day, the entire country honors the victims and heroes of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people and changed the course of American history.

The events of September 11, 2001, began when four hijacked airplanes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The attacks were carried out by terrorists affiliated with the Islamic extremist group, Al-Qaeda.

Patriot Day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the American people in the face of tragedy. It is a day to honor the lives lost and the bravery of the first responders who risked their lives to save others.

In 2009, President Barack Obama declared September 11th as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. The day is now observed as a time for Americans to come together and volunteer in their communities as a tribute to the victims and survivors of the attacks.

On Patriot Day, people all over the country observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time, the time when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. This moment of silence is a way for the nation to collectively mourn the loss of innocent lives and pay tribute to the bravery of those who risked everything to save others.

As we commemorate Patriot Day this year, let us remember the victims of the September 11 attacks and honor the courage and resilience of the American people.
